A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY PRESCHOOL EDUCATION TO THE CHILDREN OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY
January 25, 2010
Thanks to the support of U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California, LAUP has been allotted a $150,000 appropriation by Congress that will be used to strengthen preschool education efforts in Los Angeles County.
The appropriation was included as part of the federal government's 2010 fiscal year budget, which was recently approved by President Barack Obama, said Ana Valdez, an LAUP Board member, and chair of the Government Relations Committee.
"This infusion of money comes at a time when LAUP, like many other non-profit organizations, is looking into viable funding sources to sustain its programs," Valdez said. "We truly appreciate the support of Sen. Boxer, and look forward to using this money to strengthen the foundation of early education in L.A. County."
LAUP plans to use the money to fund an additional preschool classroom, or may use it to advance the skills and education of LAUP preschool teachers as part of its Workforce Development Initiative.
In addition to Boxer, LAUP also wishes to thank U.S. Reps. Grace Napolitano, D-Norwalk; and Laura Richardson, D-Long Beach, for their efforts to secure additional federal funding of LAUP programs.
