“I really like the program. Throughout the year, I noticed how my daughter developed new skills. She became more social. She learned how to write her full name and last name. I love the different activities LAUP had, for example the Christmas musical. I think this is a great program for the kids. Thank you for everything.” – Gloria Gamboa, parent
"Nothing stops a bullet like a job; nothing gets a job like a good education; nothing is as important to early education as an involved and engaged parent."

    PARENT ENGAGEMENT

Parents are children's first and most important teacher in life and we want parents to play an active role in their child's preschool journey. We believe a parent and child should grow together and have a rewarding preschool experience. At LAUP, there are many ways parents can be involved in and stay informed and connected to their child's preschool experience, including our Parent Ambassadors and Parent Alliance programs. Parents whose children have already completed preschool can stay in touch with LAUP and other parents through our Parent Alumni program.

Regardless of a family’s economic, racial or cultural background, when parents are involved in a child’s education, studies show improved attendance, reduced drop-out rates and overall higher student achievement. By engaging in children’s education, parents are helping to ensure their child’s successful educational path, and sending an important message that education is valued. Working directly with preschool providers is a great way to get information and local resources.

    Parent Engagement Resource Specialists

The LAUP Parent Engagement Resource Specialists ensure our providers offer a variety of opportunities for parents to be engaged in their child’s education and learning. They provide assistance in increasing communication with parents, create opportunities to be hands-on in the classroom, encourage connections between the home and school, and utilize resources in the community.

After children complete preschool, parents’ relationship with LAUP continues. The LAUP Parent Alumni Network helps connect families of children who attended LAUP preschools to resources and activities that will support their education as they progress through K-12, college and life. LAUP Parent alumnus will be able to participate in special events and other opportunities.

    Parent Alliance for Leadership

We encourage LAUP parents to participate in the Parent Alliance for Leadership (PAL) program. PAL is a series of parent workshops, to help parents learn current child development trends and strategies to support their child's growth and educational success. Some popular topics include Discipline, Nutrition, Home-School Activities and Transition to Kindergarten.

At the PAL meetings, parents can develop leadership skills, learn more about services in their community and show other parents how to support the children in their community. The Parent Alliance will:

    • Create, support and encourage family events
    • Strengthen communication between parents, preschools and community agencies
    • Help parents learn more about programs and services in the community
    • Give feedback about their child's preschool experience
