A quality preschool program should “implement curriculum that is thoughtfully planned, challenging, engaging, developmentally appropriate, culturally and linguistically responsive, comprehensive, and likely to promote positive outcomes for all children” (NAEYC Early Childhood Curriculum, Assessment, and Program Evaluation Position Statement). A quality program implements a curriculum that is research based and with the use of developmentally appropriate assessment tools uses the information collected to create lesson plans that can be individualized to focus on the developmental needs of each child. LAUP supports providers in using a curriculum that is research based and helps to prepare all children for kindergarten.
